I think. Nhs should have a right to charge at least £ 20 for missed appointments. GP, dentist, hospital.... Some people do not appreciate free heath care and are just taking a mick..

Is it Carol or Karen? Yeah I work in customer Service & #1 always have a positive but confidence attitude that lets the customer know that you know what’s going on even if you don’t! You may not make the final decision, but they don’t have to know that! For all they know you could be the office manager! I would have said in this situation “Carol, I’m sorry you missed your appointment, but our policy is that once you miss appointments, we can no longer schedule you. I’d be happy to give you the names of some other dentists in the area if you’d like?”

If that patient had cancelled properly she wouldn’t be in that situation. Happens all the time in GP surgeries.

You’re way more than a receptionist. I’m so sorry she spoke to you like that. It’s just so unacceptable 💔 you did an incredible job

As a manager, 100% stand by your practice policy. This is sadly an almost daily occurrence. My front of house teams are very protective over our diary time, and they will not give an inch to such patients. It is heart breaking to have to tell people in pain you’ve no emergency spaces left, for people to NOT turn up. We have the nhs emergency contract, they get booked on the day by 111, and people still don’t turn up. When 111 rebook them, we decline them if they’ve missed an apt with us already. Well keep that space for someone who will attend and we will help them.
