In the nicest way possible, America has that history too, it just got buried by colonialism

america seems to be the only country in the world where its people regard history as something dead and gone. to most europeans, we see, live, and breathe our history every day. we have towns older than many countries . it’s just part of our everyday lives and we don’t forget it

My sister found a Roman coin in the woods behind our house once and we didn't really think anything of it as we always found bits and pieces because it was a Roman march route. She took it into Primary School for Roman day and her teacher thought it might be worth getting it looked at. Sure enough the British museum confirmed it was part of a missing coin hoard and we had a behind the scenes tour but my biggest memory was the minging sausage rolls.

There’s ruins of a castle from the 15th century in the town I grew up in, there’s been something on that site since about 500AD…. I used to go drinking there as a teenager 😐😂

doesn't need to be a touristy city, pretty much any town or village has something historic in it. my random tiny town growing up was almost 1000 years old and had a church around 900 years old. even train stations - some are nearing 200 years old!

America didn't suddenly appear a few hundred years ago. There where people living there before that it's just that their history has been brushed over or destroyed

I worked at a theatre and the refurbishment had to be delayed because they found an old hospital underneath and we were all just annoyed about it like the builders hadn’t turned up or something 😂

we just randomly have a castle built in the 1200s (rebuilt from one that burned down in the 1100s) in our town and I forget about it all the time. like yeah that's the castle, don't we all have a castle down the road

I live in the oldest recorded town in the UK. In the actual town that Boudica destroyed fighting the romans. Colchester (then called Camulodunum) in AD 60. I can see a 2000 year old wall from my window.
