2 days ago a silent St. Martin's Umzug went through our neighborhood. I was so dissapointed and the only music you could hear were parents who tried to sing the songs which are usually played and sung from all kids and parents there.😭

I remember how we crafted lanterns in art class and how excited we were about taking them out and showing them to our parents. I think I still have one or two in a memory box in my mum‘s basement ❤️

In Switzerland we do it with big radish which we carve out and make pattern inside and a hole for a candle to go through and hold it from there

Saint Martin’s Day is one of my most treasured childhood memories. In my little hometown, it looks like a little play :Saint Martin riding a horse and he really cut his coat in half with his sword and gave the other half away to a freezing poor man. You will never see pass by your homeless person and not give some money for food or something nice. Saint Martin has been a role model for me since then.

Es ist nur wirklich traurig, dass in Deutschland jedes Jahr dieselbe Diskussion entsteht 😢 dass traditionelle Feste wie Sankt Martin oder der Christkindlmarkt wegen der Religion umbenannt werden sollen. Das sind doch schöne kulturelle Traditionen, die zu unserer Geschichte und Identität gehören. Gleichzeitig gibt es überall ganz selbstverständlich Ramadan-Dekorationen und Feiern. Wahre Toleranz bedeutet, alle Traditionen gleichermaßen zu respektieren nicht, einige davon zu löschen.
