Yes and no. DBS checks yes. More standardised hygiene checks yes. But I’m against anything that could then turn into a money making scheme for people who wanna make it so we have to have qualifications in art or tattooing. Art is subjective, and if you’re tattooing safely that should be enough

Hell yes it should be regulated. And buying a tattoo machine should not be possible withoutsome sort of license tbh. Expecting the industry to self-regulate isn’t enough.

It’s going to be really hard to regulate tbh. You’re supposed to have a license but there’s plenty of people on here “learning to tattoo” from their bedrooms without one

Amen to this. You wouldn’t get your teeth pulled out by someone who bought a dentistry kit on eBay that summer. But you’d go a permanently mark you skin for life on someone’s kitchen by one.

Background checks, portfolio check to make sure it’s THEIR work and not joinked, did they follow and apprenticeship and so on and so on I’m all here for it! I follow an apprenticeship for 2 years all the rules in and out, had to draw everything my self and so on and so on as it should be. 👏🏼

we 100% need more regulations, in terms of obtaining a license, becoming a mentor etc. having documented x amount of hours studio practice etc, like it is in some states in the US. also a separate license for studios that want to offer mentorships. potential mentors dbs checked for the UK. for now it's good enough to have hard floors, yellow bin and hot water to obtain the studio license. some councils are really relaxed about giving them out on first place, not to mention I've never heard of a surprise health and safety visit in studio. we really need to agree to more control to make studios a safe space for artists and clients

I’m on the fence - background checks, yes. But if it’s too regulated it takes away from the underground criminalityish sheer fuck off-ness of it all, that made me fall in love with tattooing in the early 90’s. So, I guess it comes down to the definition of ‘regulated’
