Do we all agree that the kid losing a book in kindergarten is actually his parents fault. Like it makes me sad that they made him feel bad about it. He he’s five years old and kindergarten

lost a book in KINDERGARTEN and cant check out a book as a fith grader, thats so sad for that kiddo. im so glad they got a book!

so glad my school library also doesn't charge fines. it's a classist policy and only really impacts struggling families. fines turn reading and access to books a financial privilege.

I still remember getting in trouble in grade school for losing a book by the librarian. I hated reading after that and only just started reading again in my 30s. So if he’s in 5th grade and remembers that after 5 years, he would remember it forever.

My son wont check out a book this year. I asked him why. He told me cuz i make him read me a book(1st grade behind on his reading) and when he is done i read to him. We are reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and he wants to finish that before he checks out a book. Cuz we read the library books first so they arent "late"

3rd grade teacher here… I lend out my books. I ask for them back. I encourage them to come back. I remind kids. But, if they don’t? Meh. That book was more needed elsewhere.

I gasped when you said "a few weeks ago" because they KNEW they'd give with the book for weeks and you've just given them such a gift because they've regained some self confidence and self belief AND they will keep getting more book talk books. They're going to love this new world of books you've just opened for them 🥰
