It’s actually a 7 business day hold…weekends and a federal holiday don’t count.

I work in risk for a bank so I’m going to make a few assumptions.. 1. your relationship with said bank is not long 2. The check is large & much more than you have in available funds to cover if it returns as a bad check 3. The source of the funds is outside your normal transaction

That tells you that the checks maker has had issues in the past. Banks know who bounces checks. They never forget.

I have worked in the finance industry over 20 years. Has always been this way. It is 10 business days. Usually quicker, Once the funds are verified. Usually happens with a larger deposit.

its a 10 business day hold that ALL banks do on large checks. 12 days because of weekends and a national holiday. yes the check clears quickly, but they are making sure the person who wrote the check doesn't put a stop payment on it.

My friend got an inheritance check, it was held for 12 business days. When we sold our house in 2015, the payment held for 15 business days. Seems normal.

this is normal for large checks to prevent fraud. I've had it happen numerous times. it shouldn't happen with small checks though. it's frustrating regardless.

Check deposited Saturday is actually on Monday’s business day. Tuesday is a holiday so that doesn’t count. Same with weekends. And any check could be fraudulent so it doesn’t matter how well known the issuer is. Just bad timing for the deposit, nothing against you personally.
