Let’s talk about IUD insertion and pain ⛑️ Getting an IUD inserted isn’t always a quick or simple experience. Yes, for some people, it’s just a few minutes of pressure and cramping. But for others it can be sharp, unfamiliar, even traumatic pain. And when that pain is dismissed, ignored, or met with “just breathe,” it’s not just uncomfortable. It’s invalidating. You deserve better ❤️‍🩹 You deserve to know that pain management is an option. Lidocaine injections, numbing gels, anxiety meds, even sedation – they exist. And while they may not be routinely offered, that doesn’t mean you’re asking for too much if you want them. ⭐️In fact, the CDC recently released new guidance encouraging providers to talk with patients about potential pain and to create an individualized pain management plan before insertion. Real pain relief should be discussed. And your provider should be open, respectful, and willing to listen without judgment or condescension. ➡️You have the right to ask questions. ➡️You have the right to request pain management. ➡️You have the right to stop or delay the procedure if something doesn’t feel right. ➡️You absolutely have the right to a provider who cares about you and sees you as a whole person.  It is not too much to expect care that is compassionate, informed, and centered on your experience 💯 Sources: Cucci, D.
