My dad used to teach a night class in calculus at a local junior college. On the first day of class, he wrote out an equation on the board, but said nothing about it. During the semester, he would teach how the solve for the equation without using that specific equation. In other words, he was teaching them the skill set they needed. Solving the equation was the only mathematical problem on the final.

As an IB graduate (from an inner city, very poor, public school) I wish everyone would get the chance to take these type of IB classes.

I really wish I had even 1 teacher like you. 🥵 I was lost in most classes. I left school early, but with my equivalency diploma. Luckily I went back to college later and did well. But I would have done so much better with a teacher like you in High school.🥰🥰

As a retired high school Spanish teacher I always had other teachers and administrators ask me how I got my students to perform so well on final exams. I guess I wasn’t realizing that other people taught to the test because I just taught my students to be ready for the following year. I wanted to make sure they knew what they needed to know to be successful at the next level. That doesn’t seem like it should be a secret, does it? Apparently it was for some teachers! 😂 I was even asked to mentor a teacher who was sharing my room & she was so surprised that I didn’t teach to the test.

As a parent, I hated the idea of my daughters' teaches "teaching to the test". I was very much about teaching them critical thinking skills rather than being able to just regurgitate.

Thank you . I hate that teachers have to teach this way. My daughter has 5-7 special Ed kids in Hartford,CT. The y have enough issues with reading how do you take the test and expect results based in some chart. Very frustrated as a mom of a teacher. How about teaching to do their best.
