@stephysays.japan: #nikko 🍁If Nikko isn't on your Japan bucket list, it should be! Here are some tips for an enjoyable trip 💛🖤Nikko is popular with domestic and foreign travelers, and for good reason! It holds a big piece of Japanese history and is absolutely stunning! 🍁The fall foliage adds yet another dimension 📍Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture 😅Ready for those tips to avoid crowd exhaustion? 7 and 8 are the most helpful! 1️⃣- be ready for stairs. They're everywhere! No cap 2️⃣- look for the quiet spots. Nikko can be crowded, but you can often find some calm 3️⃣- go to some less-visited spots. My favorite is Rin’nōji Taiyū-in temple, just moments away from the famously beautiful (crowded) Toshogu Shrine 4️⃣- Eat! Duh. 😉 5️⃣- notice the details. Immaculate wood carvings and golden pieces are everywhere 6️⃣- look up! There are many stunning sights overhead 7️⃣- be ready for crowds! A- go on a weekday if possible B- plan your activities & routes between them ahead of time to avoid exhaustion. Nikko is surprisingly big, with the "main" Nikko area, a theme park and onsen area, and Oku-Nikko with amazing nature. Each area has lots to do, so it's important to plan ahead at least a bit C- get tickets ahead of time when possible. Get a set ticket from the booking site of your choice before going (including transportation from Tokyo), or when you arrive at Toshogu Shrine buy the ticket on their website to skip the line (then go to window 7 to exchange your QR code for a paper ticket before entering) D- don't spend too much time trying to get the perfect shot if it's too crowded. Sometimes you just gotta let it go 🥲 8️⃣- don't try to do a day trip from Tokyo.
