Just a heads up Shinnjyuku is the most getto place in Tokyo and none of my friends and I ever hung out in that area. They're plenty of great areas in Tokyo so I'd recommend avoiding this area!

because there are more convenience stores than police stations, most convenience stores have this poster on the door which means they are a safe haven for people who feel they are in trouble! pls tell the cashiers you feel unsafe they will help you!

Yeah never stay in shinjuku if you're traveling alone as a woman, especially in or near the kabukicho area cus it isn't safe. I recommend to stay in Minato-ku or suginami-ku. Minato is more on the richer side of Tokyo so a bit safer, and suginami is a good family area (I lived in ogikubo my first year and never had problem there).

Sketchy for sure. Gotta hit em with the “that’s my purse! I don’t know you!” It’s weird to me that someone can just go outta their way to bother someone or make them uncomfortable. I’d feel so awkward. Glad everything turned out okay

Here’s the thing they chased me to and I’m a man and they’re usually a group of Nigerian and African guys trying to get you to go to the bars so they can rip you off with overpriced drinks. They’re not trying to rape you but they’re aggressive I would do a little research if you wanna continue soul traveling and try to avoid red light districts, Shinjuku fun great nightlife. There’s only about three or four blocks that are crazy like that with all the African toyts, and the way the hell out of me too, but the truth is the way to avoid them is just not make eye contact don’t walk fast or walk the same pace and act like they’re ghosts they’re not going to grab you
