i think it’s also a commentary on naivety. can we condition ‘young love’ as such without any real experiences to justify such emotion? when feeling an emotions slightly stronger than pure lust, one may define it as love due to lack of experience and understanding

The Friar says that if Romeo can suddenly drop Rosaline in favor of Juliet, it shows that "Young men's love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes" (2.3. 67-68). And all those tears that Romeo shed for Rosaline "were salt water thrown away in waste, / To season love, that of it doth not taste!" - this stayed w me way too much the first time I read it to ever be able to like their romance enough

I think it was love, not lust. I've always thought that teens are way more prone to falling in love, and in the play it emphasizes how the adults act out of logic, while Romeo and Juliet act out of emotion. The reason why Romeo and Juliet died was because their love for each other was strong enough for fate to poison it, causing the feud to end.

It’s definitely the epitome of teenage love I think, Romeo especially is so impetuously rushed all of the time and it really captures the way teenagers fall in love and it completely consumes their life before they’re ready to even really process the emotions. If Shakespeare had made the characters 30+ it wouldn’t have worked so I think it is ‘love’ but not Love

Romeo would’ve never received the letter bc the friar with the letter gets quarantined for being sick so he receives the info from Bartholomew instead. This whole play is about miscommunication!

Well we have to take into account the time period in which this was written when we think about their age. Romeo is extremely immature but the actions at the end are bc he genuinely thinks he is in love with

This becomes symbolically clear when Juliet tells Romeo that she wishes he were like the sun, not the moon. The moon has phases and is fickle, just like lust, and a truly masculine man, a hero of any classic, should be like the sun.

I have recently read this play and afterward watched a lecture on it from Harold Bloom. his interpretation is quite diff from this. he said such a passion could be considered healthy and juleit is complete mature in her intelligence far more than Romeo who is still trying to compete with her in Intelligence or maturity.(check his interpretation)
