Tripod fishes aren't suffering. Their long, thin rays aren't painful or damaged. They're built to support the fish while it stands on the seafloor. Staying still is an energy-saving strategy in a place where food is scarce, not a sign that they're weak or unable to move. They can swim normally whenever they want to, and their small eyes are normal for deep-sea species, since there is almost no light at that depth. Evolving big eyes would be pointless, so they're born with tiny ones. And parasites are common on almost every ocean animal and don't automatically mean they're in pain or severe harm. If tripod fish were doing something that constantly hurt them, they wouldn't have survived as a species. Their anatomy and behavior match their environment, which means they're living in a way that is natural and not suffering.
