you might want to mention that this should only be done with industrial ventilation or outside so the hydrogen won't explode your house.

For those curious, concentration of hydrogen in air needs to be greater than 4% to reach lower explosive level. That means in a 1000 cu ft room (10x10x10), it would take 2 amps of electrolysis for 53 days to become explosive. The danger of explosions is overstated in the comment section

You forgot one important step: do not let your cast iron pan touch the sacrificial anode!

What I have found is a ton easier is use a lye bath to remove seasoning/ carbon buildup, then soak in a 1:1 vinegar to water ratio to remove rust. Does the same exact thing and no need to build this contraption or buy a battery charger.

The hardest part is finding a manual battery charger - I’m open if anyone has recommendations.

Could you do this in a stock tank if you wanted to de-rust car parts like fenders? I feel like the tank being plastic or rubber is important. 😁

Got the same result on a 60 year old pan using 1.5% caustic soda solution on a pan worse than that in about 3 hours with no additonal effort to scrub. Just neutralised and resasoned the pan. Looks like it came out of tge box.
