The man accused of murdering Charlie Kirk declined to testify in his preliminary hearing on Friday. "We have advised Mr. Robinson of his right to testify at this hearing, and he is choosing to take our advice and not testify," said Tyler Robinson's lawyer Staci Visser. "Is that correct, Mr. Robinson? And I note that he's nodding in the affirmative," Judge Tony F. Graf Jr. said. Prosecutors did not present evidence to rebut the defense case, so the hearing ended on Friday (July 10) after Judge Tony F. Graf replayed video of a man prosecutors say is Robinson on the roof of the Losee building at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, 2025. The man fired one round and Kirk was shot while speaking on stage. Graf agreed to show the video again after a lawyer for Kirk's parents and widow said they couldn't see the video when it was played in the courtroom earlier this week. The video was not shown on the broadcast. Graf said earlier that it wouldn't be. He also on Friday ordered the camera operator to stop showing exhibits after the handwritten note—which prosecutors say Robinson left his roommate and romantic partner, Lance Twiggs—was displayed in violation of a court order. He also directed the camera operator to only stream audio while the video played again "to prevent the inadvertent publication of the exhibit from being transmitted to outside the courtroom." The video does not have sound. Attorneys and Robinson will return to Graf's courtroom Utah's 4th Judicial District in Provo on Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. to argue for and against probable cause.
