Because in order to observe in ANY way, we must interact with photon. Like in order to see, we need the light - photons in the light are interacting with the photon in the experiment therefore it changes. It’s not terrifying - just physics.

Interaction occurs with the path not the particle, people got too point like and disregarded time. Time isn’t singular, it’s the continuous field of the discrete quantum fields. Hence interaction occurs with the path, which just the particle smeared along its timeline, geometrically akin to a particle world line. What’s interesting is that coherence/decoherence is essentially classical/quantum in function, quantum decoherence leads to classical coherence.
