Wooly’s real body has long rotted away. He doesn’t want her to leave because she’s the only thing keeping him in existence. He’s afraid of her because she hurts him. He’s trying to help her because she’s just a kid. He’s afraid of death but trying to make this existence somewhat bearable. He’s not a good person, but not evil, I’d say morally grey.

To explain the lore Amanda was supposed to be the bad guy the whole time from the first and second game. It seemed as if she was the one keeping them inside the game, but how she couldn’t remember anything from her past, even though she was trying to remember this shows that woolly was actually erasing the memory from her brain and making her seem as the bad guy so nobody would suspecting anything.
