His issue isn’t with men paying for the first date or women accepting that the man they’re seeing pays. It’s with the discourse about it where people villainise men for asking to split the bill. I’m surprised so many in the comments don’t realize this. When kindness and generosity becomes expectations, people will no longer want to be kind or be generous, because everyone inherently desires to be appreciated

You are correct. The idea of men paying was insinuated by the idea that women COULDNT pay. It’s rooted in gender roles. Paying is okay if it’s just a nice gesture or if one person is struggling with money/doesn’t make as much.
