Happens so often. Me and a co-worker were going to interview someone for a job opening and they only spoke English to me and Swedish to my blonde co-worker. Meanwhile she was German and didn't speak any Swedish and I was the one fluent in Swedish.😁

There is a real issue here and it’s fair and needs to be acknoweldged. The reason English speaking countries (Canada, Australia, UK) are so easily able to become international multicultural places is because English is an international language. Locals from countries with unique and rare languages need to be protected with political reassurances that their language will not be lost under immigration. That’s one way to solve fears associated with anti immigration.

once it happened to me in finland lol. there was a black lady and i was really gentle “excuse me, could i sit here?” and her son spoke to me angrily “WHY DONT YOU SPEAK FINNISH?” and i said “CAUSE IM BRAZILIAN???????” he didn’t even say im sorry or anything, but i saw his mom got uncomfortable with his way of speaking. it was my first month in finland so ofc i didn’t speak finnish at all lol i am happy my husband wasn’t present cause he would have snapped
