I think that what’s hard is that a man can release a song like this and people would eat that shit up. I think we can discuss that she did this bad thing and also understand that we don’t understand the nuances that lead to that scenario. At the end of the day, the song is a bop.

I think you also need the context of the whole album - Reneé was also cheated on, and in addition has songs about knowing these feelings are bad and not wanting to act upon them - and in the context of YLTWY, she’s quoting the other person, not herself

r&b and pop has always been riddled with "cheating" songs, damn Usher made a whole album about it. my only thing is if you wanna make that music accept everything that it comes with, people wanna play both sides. nah you're the "bad guy" now. artist like Brent faiyaz, weekend, future...they make that music an acceptable that role

People hate when people have shades of grey. I listen to her songs and love them for sharing her true experiences even if it makes her the bad guy. I definitely also think “oof, I would never date someone who talks about cheating like this” but that doesn’t mean she is an awful bad person.

I love that all of the comments are full paragraphs! I don't think the song celebrates cheating. So in that sense I think it's okay. kind of like Jordyn touched on, if the song was I'm a cheater and it was so good and now my life is better, that would definitely be in poor taste
