Had a bit of fun making this one! In my recent 'Can you Swim if you Sink' video, many people were asking how they can actually swim underwater, if they float. It's funny, many people think—when they first start learning to swim—that they will just sink, whereas actually, most people really do float... and people eventually ask... how DO I actually swim down?? Apart from having a bit of fun, the main methods I used here were a 'surface' or 'duck' dive, and also swimming breaststroke underwater. Because breaststroke is basically the only reliable way of swimming effectively under water (unless you're wearing fins), it's another reason why I believe it's our most natural way of swimming, and should be taught as a first way of swimming to beginning adults (definitely before starting the front crawl stroke!). Safety: never swim alone (I had a lifeguard supervising me 1:1 at all times, but you just can't see them!) and only swim within your ability! Only experiment with blowing all your air out in shallow water (because you'll have no breath left!) Ears/Equalisation: Lastly, for most people, when swimming past 2 or 3 meters, you'll start notice a sense of pressure or discomfort in your ears, due to the pressure changes as you swim deeper. Now and again you'll see me 'squeeze' my nose, and this helps me perform an equalisation technique (by 'pushing' air into my middle ear space! crazy, huh). Without doing this, swimming really deep can eventually become painful, and even damage your ear drums! But I don't want to scare you, when you learn the correct equalisation technique though, it's perfectly safe (but careful if you've had a cold recently or have any sinus problems). I learnt the Frenzel equalisation technique with my Freediving training. Hope you enjoyed this one :) #swimming #waterconfidence #swimmingtips #watersafety #learntoswim
