I had no idea this was an issue. I noticed the art style was more like the manga for the movie in comparison to the first season. I actually loved how it was originally first adapted :< so sad Fujimoto couldn’t keep it the way he intended it to be

i wasnt a big fan of s1 artstyle and also the 3d, but i liked the way they experimented with incorporating motion graphics alongside hand drawn animation.

S1 was an 8½/10 adaptation while the Reze movie was a 10/10 adaptation. Everyone brushes it off but I don't like that they skipped the Muscle Devil part in the beginning. The animation, while good, focused on the wrong parts of what makes CSM special.

Honestly at first I preferred the season 1 art style but there’s genuinely no way they could have animated the movie in that style

Both the s1 and film artstyle massively improve on the eyesore that is the manga anyway

I think both styles are incredible! I really enjoyed S1 but understand and enjoy that S2 is more accurate to the manga. Both styles give a memorable experience. S1 came at a different time in anime where animation felt like it was being pushed and fresh among all the series out there.

I liked how the anime season art style was but I do prefer the original art style like the movie emulated. But as you said, I do think it's sad that now Fujimoto isn't getting his work adapted how he wanted to. That being said I do still think the movie added enough general art direction changes to still make it feel like a new experience (Far less harsh shadows like Reze coming out of complete darkness and the water having much more depth and the actual martial arts Reze uses). Hopefully they'll find a similar compromise for the inevitable following seasons and whatever else they might make into a movie

I personally don’t see the movie as contradicting Fujimoto’s original wishes because with the interview it seems he’s moreso speaking about the overall direction of the anime rather than specifically about artstyle. And I feel like the movie team was able to use the techniques unique to film (arguably even more than season 1) to still make it their own thing even with the artstyle change.

Anime is made for fans, not for the authors. I respect your opinion that you prefer different styles, but you're in a minority here. Fans buy manga volumes, movie tickets, and merch; therefore, they come first. Current designs are not only closer to manga ones, but they are also easier to animate and work with. Since you're a manga reader, you know the arcs that are coming and how grand it all becomes. Mappa NEVER has healthy productions for CSM and JJK, thus having these designs is a huge help for the animators.
