My issue here is that a donut shop worker, or even a coffee shop worker is making full wage (likely minimum wage), not a server wage which is significantly lower than minimum wage. So, no, my Donut shop cashier does not need a tip like the server at a diner or restaurant does.

Waitstaff have a different minimum wage scale that is based off the assumption of them being tipped, while fast food workers have the same minimum wage scale as say grocery store workers or child care providers. Tipping service employees is nice to do, but most of us don’t have enough money to tip everyone we interact with just because they added a tipping button to the kiosk.

Tipping is actually normal in America because of prohibition, when the sale of alcohol was banned, restaurant owners started losing money so they encouraged tipping so they could pay their servers less. That’s why tipping isn’t really a thing here in the UK, we never went through prohibition

Even if the cooked my food I wouldn’t tip. Never. I pay the price it cost and that’s already way to expensive. Then I will never be paying on top of that high price anything g else
