One thing I don’t think we talk about enough when it comes to estrangement is the anger that sometimes comes along with the grief. Not the kind of anger that makes you want to hurt someone or hold on to bitterness… but the kind that comes when you finally begin to realize just how much of yourself you’ve lost trying to make things right. The sleepless nights. The constant questioning of yourself. Replaying conversations, second-guessing your intentions, apologizing, and wondering what you could have done differently. Trying so hard to understand someone else’s hurt that somewhere along the way, you stopped acknowledging your own. And eventually, there comes a point when you realize that no amount of explaining, apologizing, or loving someone can repair a relationship that requires more than one willing heart. And yes… sometimes that realization brings a little anger with it. Not because you’ve stopped loving them, but because you begin to recognize just how much this journey has cost you emotionally. But here’s something I’m learning… we can acknowledge the hurt without allowing it to harden our hearts. God doesn’t ask us to pretend we aren’t hurting. He knows the disappointment, the frustration, and even those moments when we struggle to understand how things ended up this way. And I believe sometimes healing begins when we finally stop carrying responsibility for every broken piece and start trusting Him with the things we simply cannot fix. It’s okay to grieve what you’ve lost. It’s okay to feel frustrated by what you cannot change. And it’s okay to recognize that your heart needs just as much grace and compassion as you’ve spent years extending to everyone else. Because healing isn’t about proving who was right or wrong. It’s about finding peace with what is, learning from what was, and allowing God to restore the parts of ourselves we’ve neglected along the way. You can still love them. You can still pray for them. You can still leave the door open… without continuing to tear yourself apart while you wait. One day at a time. One prayer at a time. And always with God’s grace. 🤍
