The parents aren't to blame AT ALL! If you've ever used an elevator, you have a reasonable assumption that that door isn't getting pushed in easily, and they jumped straight to action when it occurred. I hope they win

This is NOT their fault. It is SUCH a normal assumption that a metal door to an ELEVATOR could NOT be moved.
