@danielanastasio2: Piano Phase, by Steve Reich. In the 60s, he noticed and played with a phenomenon called “phasing,” in which two identical phrases slowly become out of sync as one of them very gradually speeds up. In Piano Phase, that speed-up pauses for a few measures to enjoy a new composite rhythm between the two, before pressing on to find a new one. #piano #minimalism #stevereich #pianophase #newmusic
its like sitting at a red light and watching the turn signals ahead of you sink up as you wait

The use of the word “discover” is doing some work here. Could there be a more accurate word, especially when referring to white 20th century men?

Saying he “discovered” this colotomic rhythm is erasing the eastern influences of gamelan or african ensembles on western composers. Western musicians introduced the technique, they didnt design it.

When I saw the King Crimson BEAT tour, the music they played before the show was Music for 18 Musicians. Perfect choice for that night!

His electric counter point is literally what got me through undergrad and grad school music degrees. Scratched my AuDHD brain the right way and allowed me to be able to focus.

I was at his 70th birthday concert at Carnegie years ago. Music for 18 musicians was mind blowing.

Some times I sit at a stop light with my blinker on, and the car in front of me has its blinker on, and they're just a little out of time, and they're almost in sync, then they go out of sync, and it blows my mind 🤯

It blows my mind that the full piece is 20 mins or so, how the pianists keep concentrating for that long is amazing.
