oh my gosh I was beginning to think the wild swan was a fever dream! No one I grew up with remembers the book or the old animated version! I loved it.

funny story, in the oldest versions of Rumpelstiltskin the issue isn't that the woman couldn't spin straw into gold, but that every time she tried to spin flax it was coming out gold, which was of zero use to a peasant who lived in the middle of nowhere.

I remember the story about the swans, but I remember her not finishing the last shirt and one brother still had wings instead of arms. As a kid I always thought that they must have had a weird relationship after that.

Actually spindles on great wheels can be very sharp. Also on antique wheels the end of the shaft on the flyer can be kinda sharp as well.
