If you use a loan to “buy” a home you’re essentially renting (interest) from a loaner/bank. No wonder people rent from a company or individual. There isn’t much risk involved in renting. The principle of owning a house takes way too long to supersede the interest payments.

if your choosing to invest instead of purchase. Your rent money is doing nothing for you. I would also be curious of what the plan is when you retire? Are you going to have enough invested to cover rent 20 or 30 + years form now??

39 and bought at 27. I live in an affordable area in California. We bought at 3.5% for $208k. We hope to move to a larger house in a couple years since it’s unlikely our kids can afford to buy and we want space for them as adults.

30 years old, renting, and no plans to buy a home in the near future. Renting/investing can make a lot more sense economically in cities especially if you are single and not entirely sure where you want to live for the next few decades!
