@todayshow: Visa and Mastercard have announced a $38 billion settlement with retailers who accuse the card networks of charging too much to accept their credit cards. Under the settlement, the card companies would lower their swipe fees by about one tenth of a percent over five years. #TODAYShow

Why would it go to retailers? The customers are the ones who paid it. Businesses are not out here ratting costs (see: tariffs)

Consumers paid those fees because retailers raised prices so they would not have to pay those fees but retailers will receive the settlement and retailers will continue collecting the fees

Businesses really need to get rid of the 3% credit card surcharge. Government needs to do something about it.

Credit card fees should not be based on percentage. They should be a flat fee. It doesn't cost the credit card company any more to process the payment for my family groceries than it does to process the payment for my breakfast.

Ha! This makes me laugh. People say that AMEX charges the highest merchant fees. But Amex is not a part of this settlement.

Retailers need to stop transferring that handling fee onto the customers bill and having the customers pay it under a handling fee. That's their cost, not the customers.
