@tacoma.county.animals: Pup’s Leg Is Nearly Yanked From His Body In Brutal Hit-And-Run That Almost Ended His Life...⁠ ⁠ Local Animal Control officers picked up Oswald after he had been hit by a car, but they were unable to reach his owner. With no one to claim him and no funds to address his serious injuries, Oswald was moments away from being euthanized at the shelter.⁠ ⁠ Oswald’s microchip provided contact information for his owner, but despite the shelter staff's multiple calls, there was no answer on the other end of the line. It shouldn’t happen like this. This dog had an owner–he had a home. Yet, here he was, lying in the shelter, literally on his deathbed, and no one was coming for him. Time was running out. Poor Oswald was severely injured, but the shelter had no funds to provide necessary treatment. Soon, they would be forced to euthanize him.⁠ ⁠ Just as we were about to intervene, Oswald’s owner surfaced. The county allowed his owner to reclaim him since he was still on a legal stray hold. We were hopeful, but that hope faded fast. The moment his owner called the emergency vet where Oswald had been transported, he decided he couldn’t move forward with treatment. Even with financial assistance options, the responsibility was too much. Oswald was hurt, in pain, and now completely out of options. ⁠ ⁠ So, we stepped back in—this time for good. Oswald was surrendered to our rescue, and now he is officially ours. There is no more uncertainty about his future, no more wondering if he will get the care he so desperately needs. Oswald’s leg is hopelessly mangled, and a complicated surgery is his only chance of walking pain-free again.
