In this day and age why NOT use whats available to us. More power to those who want home birth and natural birth, but I don’t know about free birth.

i had an unmedicated and was doing a great job pushing in a squat position until we experienced shoulder dystocia. they gave me a quick warning before several people flipped me onto the bed. they were having me push while reaching in and pulling her out. there was at least a dozen medical professionals in our room just for us to be ok. you cannot plan for shoulder dystocia or any other delivery issues. i’m forever grateful to those medical professionals who were just doing their (lifesaving) job.

My second had EA-TEF. I’m sure he'd have been okay during a transfer but I wouldn't have been there admitted with him.

I’m so glad you mentioned risk vs benefit it’s something that all too often - not only in free birth but lots of other things- is not fully considered

if I get pregnant again I would never do a free birth my last two pregnancies I dilated very fast I didn't start feeling any contractions until 8cm and to top it both time they had to burst the placenta for the baby to come down

I had a perfectly healthy pregnancy and delivery. My child ended up pooping her meconium and wasn’t crying after being delivered. One push of a button and a bunch of nurses rushed into the room and helped her. I told myself after my first delivery I’d have my other children at home, now I will only have them in the hospital.

I'm from UK and had never heard of free birth.... but after listening to you, I have had 2 (unintentially) labours happened too fast and I delivered at home then went to hospital. This was baby 3 and 4 , however nicer and calmer with no intervention I could never of done 1 and 2 this way. Baby 1 turned and I required forceceps ... baby 2 my baby was pushing down that I couldn't stop but I was only 7cm so required to be cut in order to get him out. xx
