octahedron vs divots affects how low the ball rests, which in turn affects how wobbly the die will be and how long it'll roll. With sharp corners, the ball would rest higher in the die, making its center of mass higher and the die wobblier. The divots lets the ball go deeper for a more stable and less "rolley" die.
