I try but my kids do not listen to a damn thing I say unless I’m screaming like a banshee 🤣

Awesome, as a teacher I’d recommend instead of saying “feet off the sofa, please” replace the please with thank you. Makes it a polite instruction, not a request.!

The way I speak around my child is disgusting and I’m so relaxed. Very disappointed I’ve slipped into it. I will do better. Thankyou for the book

It’s so hard to reprogram the way you speak to your children to be different than the way you were raised ❤

As an adult I’m going to respond better to a reasonable request than demands, why would it be different for children?

As someone who works in brain injury care I will tell you now redirecting will always work better than commands. Replacing “don’t touch that” with “come here can you hold this for me” or “put that down” with “can I see your hands?” Kids have very little emotional regulation or control over themselves if you tell them not to do something they will want to do it but they are very easy to distract and redirect

Definatly hard when you were raised that way but I’ve definitely been trying to be intentional and regarding the way I talk. Love this

Yep. We do it in teaching as well, telling kids what we want instead of saying what we DONT want.

Also you have to slow down with the younger ones and get down to their height level. It helps bring you into their world

best way: as an adult first assess why they are shouting. is their behaviour covering for something else. then make a rational decision on how to respond. not all occurrences are equal

instead of 'snack times over shall we go wash up?' use 'let's was up these dishes now snacktimes over, bet you cant make the water bubbly' its not asking them as question they can, and will say no to, its telling and getting them to make a task fun

you shouldn't need a book. don't be a friend. Just be a friendly parent. treat them as equals, as they are (humans) and they will listen 💪👌

this is gentle parenting which absolutely can be stern and assertive. once people figure out what it really is they tend to get more on board
