@itsevelynneli: Keilette told her daddy that she cried at school because a teacher scolded her. The next morning, she was scared and upset and didn’t want to go back. Daddy tried to find out more, but she just looked down and went along with getting ready for school. Daddy found it quite weird she was scared to go to school and told her to go tell me what happened. When she first talked to me, I noticed she was gauging my reaction, so I spoke to her again in a reassuring tone, letting her know I was there for her. She then bravely shared what happened. She doesn’t speak much Chinese and I was really impressed by how clearly she recounted everything. I want all my kids to know that no matter what happens, we’ve got their backs. Kids may sometimes think they’re at fault and deserve to be “punished” or accept “nasty remarks. And in cases where they face mistreatment, like in that recent incident with the cook, they might not even realise they’re being treated unfairly. Often, they feel like it’s their fault and keep it to themselves out of shame. We are not helicopter parents who hover like our kids cannot be said. Many times, it may be a causal remark or threat, but to the kids, they perceive differently. And we also do not want our kids to think that, to get something, they have to resort to threats or intimidation. I think making sure our kids feel comfy telling us everything, from the little things to the big stuff, is important, no matter how young. It’s never too early for this. When kids feel safe, they know they have a reliable support system. This helps us as parents stay informed about what’s going on in their lives, and figure out if anything needs addressing or if they need a little guidance. It also helps us catch any unusual behaviour/treatment early so we can step in when needed, keeping them safe from inappropriate situations or their own feelings.

Everything should be in balance. Parents also need to rmb to teach kids to reflect if they were in the wrong. Blindly protecting them will only result in self centered and self entitled kids. Like the kids we have today who spout violence without a second thought.

I think that wasn't a scolding but the teacher being transparent letting her know they took her photo and that it was only for her parents and not for any other purpose. They may have had issues in the past where other parents thought their kids were not given food to eat so they needed proof that they did provide the food. The child probably could not understand this and interpreted it as a disapproval.

How long can you protect her for? Rmb, she has bigger things to face next time in society, you can’t protect her forever she has to learn how to face hardships in life. Kids these days lack the resilience and it’s all due our current parenting

ur daughter did so great recounting the incident and u both as parents too who listened to her and reassured her. i agree we are not trying to be karen parents but we need our kids to know that their feelings are validated, more so from us as their parents. and its really great that you approach the teacher and school..also make them know what you felt was appropriate and not appropriate. respectfully, you can also try get feedbacks from fellow parents whose kids are in the same class. poor girl must be feeling all sorts of emotions. kids should enjoy and look forward to school. i would bring this matter all the e
way to the top.

I agree. psychological safety within the family is important so that children will freely speak to the parent. 🥰

Agree with need to make children open to sharing to parents without judgement, but unsure what your intention is with this. (1) is your child’s response to a teacher wanting to report not finishing her food to parents an overreaction? Warnings like these are made often even by parents to children to make them finish food (eg “you don’t finish your food I tell papa to scold you”), it shouldn’t be such a big issue
