@blackbirdcoop: Replying to @arealwych I suppose I could sell an awful lot of chicken and sell an awful lot of books telling people “you better buy my chicken or else we’re done in 60 years,“ but I suspect that people are getting really tired of being lied to and herded from one source of anxiety to another so that grifters can print money. #conservation #soil #farming #agriculture #climatechange

Not a farmer, only have a small garden but what in the absolute hell?!?! You can make soil in your backyard with eggshells, grass clippings, scraps and leaves! It’s not a finite resource.

Same as “we are running out of water”. Water is 100% regenerative. It evaporates, then comes back down. It’s our job to keep it CLEAN!

the only crop I know that truly destroys soil is tobacco. the plant just strips everything out and put nothing back

I've lived my whole 46 years in Monterey County and can tell you that in the last 30 years the ag companies have diversified crops and switched from straight manure to compost so the soil doesn't get depleted.

We had the same problem with "Dominance theory" in the dog training world in the 1940s/50.... and even today people still stand by this debunked theory 😅

Even if the statement was true when it was made, there is a huge profit motive to be the company that comes up with a fix for the problem.

There is an invasive worm in my area that makes the soil unusable. Other than that I don't really worry too much about it as I generally can make my backyard soil usable by throwing nutrients back into it and giving it time. My tree in the backyard does most of the heavy lifting though in the fall 😂.

Soil development and building just takes time. It’s a long slow process that takes time. Doesn’t mean it can’t come back. I really hate all this doom and gloom information.

Adam Ragusea said that slavery in the south caused horrific soil erosion in some southern states. Because the crops they were growing and the land they clear cut caused flooding
