The inflation rate for the past years has been around 4- 6 %( 6% in 2023, 6,9% in 2022 and so on). He is saying it is anticipated/forecasted to be 3%(better than before). However, it doesn’t take away the fact that there will be inflation

I believe that Economics should have been made a compulsory subject for all study streams. Based on the feedback and comments received, it is clear that Economics is an essential skill that benefits all individuals, regardless of their chosen subjects.

Inflation targeting is not the solution. SA has liquidity issues as the government is not spending enough into the economy hence high unemployment due low productivity due wealth inequality, high repo rate and austerity

Keegan Pillay :
The goal is to reduce inflation across the country resulting in your current salary having higher purchasing power (your salary will be able to buy more things). This is done by increasing the repo rate which makes borrowing money more expensive, discouraging consumer spending which results in a lower GDP and eventually lower inflation. The short term effect of the increase in the repo rate will mean that your house mortgage payments will be more expensive. In the longer term, mortgage payments will lower which will allow you to have more disposable income. The change is a good thing in the longer term, Enoch knows his stuff.
