@mind.psy.guidance: How to know who’s in what category 👇🏼 Living room people: listen to your needs and help you feel safe. They respect your boundaries and show up for you when you need it. They are consistent, steady, and a trustworthy presence in your life. In the best case scenarios this is reciprocal but there are situations where it’s not.. Porch people: you talk about work, weather, and what’s going on with the kids. You may get into politics, back and forth about sports, and even some of the stressors of life but it stays more at surface level. There’s still love, companionship, and care there but it’s a different level of vulnerability. Mailbox people: you send a funny meme or holiday card but they’re in your relatively outer orbit. These are the loose connections that may be newer friends, more distant family, or people you’ve grown apart from who aren’t actively in your day to day life. PS - I was just talking to my mom on the phone about this analogy and we came up with another one.. there’s also “bathroom people.” These are the people who you’re okay to have in the bathroom with you while you’re peeing or in the shower 👀 (next level of intimacy)!
