@ask.doctor.s: Progesterone is one of the most misunderstood hormones — but it’s also one of the most important. When it’s balanced, you feel calm, sleep well, and your cycle runs smoothly. When it’s low, your body lets you know. Mood swings Poor sleep Anxiety or irritability Worsening PMS Irregular or heavy periods These are all common progesterone symptoms that often get brushed off as “just stress” or “normal hormones.” But there are real reasons why progesterone can drop. Here are five of the most common causes: 1️⃣ Not ovulating regularly – if you’re not ovulating because of thyroid issues, PCOS, or stress, your body never makes enough progesterone. 2️⃣ Chronic stress – cortisol and progesterone share the same building blocks, so when you’re constantly stressed, your body prioritises making cortisol instead. 3️⃣ Perimenopause – in your late 30s and 40s, ovulation becomes less consistent, and progesterone dips first. 4️⃣ Postpartum – after having a baby, especially while breastfeeding, ovulation often pauses — keeping progesterone low. 5️⃣ Undereating or overtraining – your body sees energy stress as danger and shuts down ovulation to conserve energy. --- Understanding what’s behind your symptoms is the first step to restoring balance. And the good news? In Part 2, we’ll talk about how to naturally support healthy progesterone levels — through sleep, nutrition, and stress management. If your hormones feel off, it’s not all in your head — there’s usually a reason. #progesterone #lowprogesterone #pms #hormonehealth

What about taking out the mirena coil after having it in for 8.5 years and having it taken out age 32? Could progesterone possibly not go back to normal levels after that? As my periods came back super super light after having it out, nearly 2 years later my bloods showed low progesterone and in that time I’ve had 1 early miscarriage and 2 ectopics.
