Am I the only one who tastes absolutely no difference between things that are buttermilk and things that are not. Pancakes versus buttermilk pancakes, biscuits versus buttermilk biscuits… I don’t get it.

I freeze the buttermilk in a silicon muffin pan and then store the pucks in a ziploc. That way it’s pre-portioned for recipes, and thaws quickly.

I always have plain yoghurt so I mix this with a bit of milk or water to sub for buttermilk. Works really well!

you can also use plain Greek yogurt for the marinade etc, it lasts longer then you can make smoothies, ranch, tzatiki, yogurt dipped pretzels etc

also, for people who hunt.. buttermilk gets rid of the gamey taste in squirrels, ducks, and other birds or animals that have that game kind of taste if you let it marinate for 3-4 hours!
