@madisonrolley: ✈️ If you’re traveling anytime between now and Thanksgiving, here’s what you need to know about FAA flight cancellations, government reopening timelines, and how this could impact holiday travel in the United States. The Senate has officially approved the bill to reopen the government and now the House is the last step before final approval. This means the government could reopen very soon, but that does not automatically fix every part of the travel system. Even when the government reopens, the FAA is not going to bounce back instantly. Regulations do not lift overnight and disruptions inside the aviation system often spill into the days and weeks that follow. Air traffic controllers just went an entire pay cycle without being paid. Their next scheduled payday is Monday the 20th, which is the same week as Thanksgiving. Depending on how quickly pay is restored, many experts believe that normal operations will not fully return until controllers actually receive their checks. This is why travelers could still see delays, cancellations, staffing gaps and operational slowdowns even after the shutdown ends. We are already entering one of the highest travel periods in the United States. Every year, Thanksgiving week brings TSA lines, weather issues, last minute delays and cancellations. When you add a government shutdown on top of that, the impact compounds. If major weather hits any part of the country, or if airspace restrictions pop up from staffing shortages, flights could be delayed or cancelled with little notice. Travelers should prepare for possible rolling disruptions that continue for a few weeks. Have backup plans ready, fly earlier in the day, build buffer time into your itinerary and consider purchasing travel insurance.
