Hidden gem: Shane's wink 😉 It blowed my mind, but after I connected the dots I understood. It felt like a small act of revenge for the previous year’s loss. Almost like Shane was mirroring Ilya’s earlier gesture from after their race at the gym. And that also makes his line, "See you in October," feel like a callback to Ilya’s "See you at the draft. 😏 In my opinion the real reason why Ilya was smiling is because he saw this side of Shane and he liked that he's not just polite, but he could be smug and maybe smirking too! It was exciting to him seeing Shane has more layers! We remember the "You won't be so nice when we'll beat you phrase! I think Ilya was happy he was right about this! 🥰 After many of you enjoyed my hidden gems posts and asked for more, I started watching HR with a more attentive eye, trying to catch every little detail that felt unusual or I thought I see/hear something. In detail for those who are interested in my reasoning: In episode 1, when I saw Ilya smiling after Shane said, “See you in October,” I first thought it was simply because he saw Shane was happy, and he liked seeing him smile. But something about it kept bothering me. 1. Russia had just lost the International Prospect Cup, and we know how much the national team means to Ilya (and to his father). He was clearly disappointed, maybe even ashamed and upset. 2. Shane’s expression didn’t feel like a "cute, happy Shane" smile to me. It felt more like a "we beat you, we won" kind of smug look. So I rewatched the scene more closely. I slowed it down and that’s when I noticed something. Shane's face changed a bit because of a smirk. I zoomed and he actually WINK!!
