What a beautiful image we get of you running into a parade of people who had been waiting for you. Cheering as you took your final breath on earth and your first in heaven. Welcomed by loved ones with open arms, running without pain, without fear, and without a future filled with doctor’s appointments, chemo, or hospitals. Two months ago today, this was our first day without you. Who would have thought that exactly one year before, you were running through a different celebration tunnel. Your last day of chemo. Finally done. So excited to never have to step foot on that hospital floor again. You were surrounded by people who loved and cared for you, while our family stood there with tears in our eyes—filled with relief, hope, and joy. We finally got to unpack our “go bags.” We could finally exhale… even if we never fully let our guard down. But after four years, living that way had become our normal. The funny thing is, you hated being the center of attention. Every celebration we had for you finishing another treatment or reaching another milestone usually ended with you scowling at me or telling me you didn’t want to be there. But not this one. This time you were genuinely happy. You smiled for pictures, danced like no one was watching, jumped around with pure excitement, and, of course, were probably already thinking about celebrating with McDonald’s or steak and eggs. After you passed away, your teacher shared something that has stayed with me ever since. One of her students came to school and said, “That was one crazy party they threw for Elias last night.” She was confused, knowing you had passed away. Then the student explained, “When storms like that happen, God and the angels are throwing someone a welcome party. That was Elias’s welcome party.” To be fair… that storm was unlike anything we’d seen. It rumbled and flashed all night long. Maybe they really were celebrating you that big. I’m sure the celebration in heaven was far greater than the one we gave you here on earth. But I love believing that your last celebration here was only a glimpse of the incredible welcome you received from all those who had gone before you. We miss you, Spidey. Every single day. We’ll keep telling your story. We’ll keep saying your name. We’ll keep sharing your light until the day we get to see you again. Until then, keep partying, buddy… and keep working on that purple house you’re building for us. We’ll be home someday. 💜🕷️ #childloss #fuckcancer #wilmstumor #heavensangel #goodingoodbye
