It is a lifelong journey. As the years pass, the sharpness of losing my brother softens, but the ache of missing him grows in different ways. The reality that he will not see my son grow, will not share holidays, and will not witness the moments that make up our lives feels heavier with time. I have really good days, and I have days that crash over me without warning. That is the truth of grief. Healing is not linear and it looks different for everyone. Understanding that grief and joy can exist in the same breath, and that I am allowed to feel both, has changed everything for me.
