I believe this was the power move. I think the new owner didn’t like the fact that Mark still wanted to be involved and he wanted to make a statement Nico Harris had to take the hit.

It's been known now that Durmon has zero knowledge of what he was given (by his mother-in-law I believe), he relied heavily on Nico since he was the basketball guy. Nico was given the keys to the organization, taking advantage of an owner who didn't know any better (through no fault but his own as well). Nico was known as a brash businessman with a questionable work history, but he did have reportedly great relationships with players which is something Cuban valued when he hired Nico. Cuban though, he had that leash on Nico and could keep him in check unlike Durmont.
