I have read that adding instant mashed potatoes to your flour dredge does a similar thing, but haven't tried it myself. probably a good shortcut I'll have to try in the future

I use instant mashed potato’s to batter chicken ad also fish - very crispy! And easier and less messy than grating fresh potato’s to batter
