guatemala wasn’t just a trip… 🇬🇹🌋 this beautiful country quickly rose to the top of my list as one of my favorite places. spending days relaxing by the lake, exploring the many villages, hiking an active volcano and experiencing everything that this place has to offer made it a trip I’ll never forget. here are five tips for your visit👇🏼 1. while you can pay with card at many restaurants and supermarkets, make sure to carry cash (especially small bills) for public transport and souvenir shopping. most places take USD but you’re not going to get the best exchange rate so I’d suggest getting quetzales (GTQ). 2. it’s easy to get around the country without a car by using Uber, chicken buses, tuk tuks, shuttles that you can pre-book online and lanchas (public boats) at Lake Atitlan. just note: the lanchas stop running in the evening so book a stay in Antigua or Panajachel if you’re arriving late at night unless you want to pay a high price to get to any of the other villages on the lake. 3. if you’re planning to hike Acatenango, spend a few days in the country first to get acclimated to the higher elevation. I didn’t take any high altitude medication but that’s also an option if you’re worried. 4. rainy season is between May-October while dry season is November-April, but make sure to pack layers regardless of when you’re visiting. it can be hot in the sun during the day but quickly becomes chilly in the evening. 5. don’t let anyone online scare you out of visiting or doing a solo trip here. I felt very safe my entire trip, even while walking home at night alone in Antigua. there are tons of solo travelers as well, so it’s a great place to explore on your own and meet others in hostels or during group activities. have I convinced you to book your trip yet? ✈️ #travel #solotravel #guatemala #acatenango #creatorsearchinsights
