“Self-War"
"Self-war is the hardest of human battles, because one enters it as both the victim and the attacker at the same time. It is a hidden struggle that is not seen, but it tears the person apart from the inside; they try to rid themselves of the self that burdens them, silence the self that tortures them, and forgive themselves while it still punishes them.
In self-war, a person feels as though they are walking on a fine line between survival and annihilation. They hold themselves accountable for every slip-up and punish themselves for every disappointment, as if they do not allow themselves to make mistakes, forgetting that they are a human who makes mistakes and learns.
Self-war turns the mind into a battlefield, where the voice that wants peace clashes with the voice that wants punishment. And at the end of every night, the person remains exhausted from themselves, thinking about how they can reconcile with themselves after all they have done to it.
But the bitter truth is that you cannot defeat yourself with war, but with understanding. If you want to get out of this battle, carry yourself as a wounded friend, not as an enemy you hate. The self is not defeated by striking, but is calmed by kindness."
