I have been working with metal studs for 35 years with one of the largest companies in the US, hang a full sheet, it’s not a waste of drywall. Our estimates include that as a full sheet.

Nope. Hang an entire (full) drywall sheet centered over the door. Cut the door opening. Sure you'll waste some drywall but you get paid by the sheet and the drywall will not crack.
