Algebra two has a ton of content that students have trouble with? Pre calc exist because it’s hard for students to master those algebra skills in one year(most don’t) that are essential for calculus. Also pre calc teachers everything trig(useful for calc), harder algebra 2(going back to what I said before), and also goes over limits(I don’t even need to explain this one for calc)

i ended up in a2+pc honors cz i told the math director i wanted ap calc senior year, i remember what we did was linear revision, systems of 3 vars, factoring, and quadratic formula all in 2 months, i had a worksheet to move up, it had complex, rational denoms, and system of nonlinears, they should accel a2 instead of another course to make “precalc” 😭

A lot of the stuff I learned in algebra 2 was almost exactly the same from algebra 1. Honest waste of my time. Now I have to take college trig 🤦♂️

Stayed back for pre cal because it’s a free ap, I still got time to go to calc later tho

Honestly never did algebra 2 or pre calc and did fine in college calculus, most of the time they ignore all the complex stuff and stick to the basic trig rules

Students need more practice. You’re only thinking about the over achieving students. These students who don’t need the extra practice to fully internalize the material CAN go to calculus without pre calc but pre calc is there to help bridge that gap for students who can’t make that big of a jump.
