@melrobbins: There’s something you need to hear: venting isn’t working. According to a study from Ohio State University, when you vent and replay the drama over and over, you’re not releasing the anger - you’re reinforcing it. Venting feels good in the moment…but it is actually wiring your brain to stay angry. That’s why it feels like nothing ever changes. You’re just reliving the same emotional loop. So here’s your challenge: The next time someone’s behavior starts to trigger you, don’t vent - pause. Use The Let Them Theory as your tool: Let Them act how they’re going to act. Let Me remember why I’m here. You’re not there to fix them. You’re there because you value connection, family, or peace - whatever your “why” is. When you ground yourself in that, you take your power back instantly. Chances are, you won’t - because you’ve given your nervous system time to settle down. In today’s episode of The Mel Robbins Podcast, I’m sharing 5 powerful rules for dealing with difficult people - so you can stop reacting, start responding, and take your peace back. This episode drops Monday, November 17th 🎧 “5 Rules for Difficult Relationships: How to Take Back Your Peace & Power.” #melrobbins #melrobbinspodcast #venting #letthem

Venting is absolutely better than bottling. I can agree with some points, but venting to the right person can be therapeutic. You can’t just vent to anyone.

And when you vent to another person and they agree it magnifies and becomes more powerful because now there are two . Just let it go 💕💕💕

So I totally agree. But. I feel like when I do vent or dump, I feel like it’s healthy and can be good because it’s not bottled up inside. sometimes I can get closure because they can relate to what I’m saying and I feel like I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Could it be that this double amount of anger is actually therapeutic? By venting to someone you trust, someone you can relax with, you are finally letting all of it out. And then when that “double anger” is released, you feel better. Maybe it is not necessarily a bad thing, maybe its one step closer to realisation, or a healthy and safe way of releasing anger.

Venting in this way isn’t helpful because it just reinforces those feelings and the person you may be venting to isn’t a skilled professional that can help you navigate those feelings nor will

I think there’s a big difference between venting (talking about something that happened) and an angry person rage-venting about something.

Venting only feeds the drama. Bitter sweet only. Peace is the better option .

Awesome study out of OSU but this clip doesn’t capture its findings. The study doesn’t suggest ‘let them theory’ as an effective way of reducing anger. They talk about active arousal reduction which you don’t mention at all. Until someone’s ran a study on “let them theory” you can’t claim it’s backed by science.
