Coworker argued with me that employment can't be exploitative because you have the option of starting a business or living off grid instead. While also using "What happens when everyone wants to be game devs instead of doctors" as a counter to communism. Everyone is an entrepreneur, good capitalism, everyone game dev, evil communism.

from elementary all the way through high school, they pushed entrepreneurship so hard. And if you weren’t into it, teachers/admin would hit you with the whole “you don’t wanna be your own boss?” like it was crazy to think otherwise. I get that the whole point was to push a certain “success mindset” but honestly it was odd

I wanted to do a trade and I was told I need to go to college and then while in college I said I wanted to do truck driving and I was told I need to stay in college and keep working and now that I filled out of college and I’ve been working since I was 16 I’m told how proud they are that I kept working and found myself a job that pays me well enough

Fun fact, even in states where it’s legal to smoke, a lot of places still won’t let you into the trades — at least, not into the unions 😐 so, a lot of disabled people who just need to keep CBD/THC in their system throughout the day in order to function are cut off from a possible revenue source, and it’s 110% because they don’t want progressives to have infrastructure knowledge
